Zerberus Guitars - how it all started
Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Frank
Scheucher and I was born 1965 in Speyer, in the beautiful German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. My father being a professional guitarist and performing in rock and blues bands to this day, you could say that I was born
with music in my genes. Therefore it was no surprise that I should later wish to fulfill my boyhood ambitions, pursuing an interest both in building and playing guitars. At the age of thirteen, I obtained my first
electric guitar at an auction, an Ibanez Rickenbacker copy. Two years later, with the help of a skilled local carpenter, I built my first instrument. During the coming years more designs followed and in 1992,
I presented some of my custom guitars at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt (NAMM). But my designs proved, perhaps, too radical to the guitar establishment. Still, that first visit to the music fair did enable me to
establish some important links with producers in Asia, links that I could make valuable use of later. In the following years, whilst playing in many different bands, on different stages and in recording
studios, I was regularly confronted by the problem of having to transport around many different guitars in order to produce the right sound at the right time. Playing in a heavy-metal band and then in a
southern-rock band, expanded my personal guitar inventory yet again. So it became my vision to develop a guitar that met my aesthetic tastes, but which sounded flexible and powerful enough for use in almost any style of
music. With this goal in mind, I formed Zerberus Guitars in 2002, initially as a one-off custom guitar building business. In the early days, a variety of Zerberus Guitars models were produced, designed to cater for
a broad spectrum of individual styles and tastes. |

But when I finally created the Zerberus Q-Deluxe limited production model, with its
special electronics, I felt I had produced the versatile, all-round Guitar I had so long been searching for. After receiving many accolades for the Q-Deluxe, I decided to continue developing in this
direction. The Morpheus, available since May 2004, finally fulfilled my dreams for an all-round guitar. Utilizing all my experiences as a player, builder and designer, the results speak for themselves.
Regardless of the style of music: heavy metal, blues, jazz, rock and roll, or dance - the Morpheus tackles and masters all with great confidence. Available since June 2005, with its double-locking tremolo system, the
Hydra is the next step, a very cutting-edge guitar which also fills me with great pride. The contacts I formed over the years at the Frankfurt Music Fair really helped me in further establishing Zerberus
Guitars. To complement my one-off custom guitar business, I felt needed to find a company that could faithfully convert my detailed guitar designs into reality, but in reasonable quantities and at a
value-for-money selling price compared to my custom models. I carefully selected an award-winning guitar factory in Korea. This small company builds my guitars in limited production runs of around one hundred units,
much of the work being completed by hand. Of course, the final inspection is performed me, personally. Before any instrument leaves my workshop, I ensure that everything is to perfection, including: bridge, frets,
string heights and neck adjustment. Then I sound check the instrument, before hand-polishing it and preparing it for shipment.
My guitars are ready to play on stage, straight out of the shipping box. There is also a two year guarantee on all Zerberus Guitars, but even after ten years, if repairs are needed because of some mishap,
Zerberus Guitars will be happy to inexpensively return the instrument to its original glory. Naturally, Zerberus Guitars also builds custom instruments to the precise wishes of its customers, and is happy to
provide a quotation which includes suggestions about design, wood selection and hardware. And due to the intimate nature of our business, it is also possible to provide a quotation for modifications to the
limited production run guitars, such as the Morpheus and the Hydra, to further personalize them. These kinds of services set us apart from the large guitar companies that mechanically churn
out high-volume, anonymous products. |
